Secrets to Sell Your Home Fast
Once you decide to sell, it’s natural to want the process to go quickly. A long-drawn-out sale is hard on homeowners and can lead to frustration and discouragement. Here are a few (not-so-secret) secrets I’ve discovered to help your home sell quickly!
Help Closets Look Empty
As you’re staging your house, take out at least half of the items you have in your closet. This will not only make your closet look neat and organized, but it will also give the allusion of more space.
Increase Interior Lighting
Oftentimes, buyers are drawn to bright, inviting spaces. When you have showings, make sure all of your window blinds and drapes are open to allow as much light in as possible. Also, be sure to turn on all lights and lamps for added emphasis.
Hide Evidence of Your Pets
I know that your pet is probably part of the family, but buyers may not be as in love with animals as you are. Make sure odors (especially litter boxes), hair, and even pet food evidence are all taken care of before your house hits the market.
Make Repairs, Not Necessarily Upgrades
This secret is a little house-dependent, but for the most part, listing your house is not the time to undertake major home renovations. Yes, you should make minor repairs that will help your house to sell (think touch up paint, repair/replace cracked windows, fix leaky faucets, etc.), but you shouldn’t completely redo your kitchen for instance.
Remove Family Photos
This is hard for so many people, but it’s a good idea to take down family photos and decor specific to your family before listing. Buyers want to be able to picture themselves in your house, and that’s hard to do when your family is staring back at them.
Don’t Neglect the Exterior
Lastly, your home may be spotless and beautiful on the inside, but if your yard is a mess, landscaping is non-existent, and the porch is falling apart, buyers likely won’t ever even make it inside. Don’t forget to pay attention to the exterior, too!
