Preparing to Move in the New Year

Preparing to Move in the New Year

preparing to move

When the clock strikes midnight on December 31, people’s to-do lists intensify. They are immediately faced with decisions and ideas to make every aspect of their lives better. If you are a homeowner planning to move in the new year, your to-do list is twice as long as everyone else’s. I get it. I want to make your life as easy as possible, so take a deep breath and let’s dive into some easy tips to follow if you’re planning to move after the ball drops.

Map out your Schedule

Make a schedule so you stay on track with your big move. Plan out when you want to find movers, plan a packing party, and the different things you desire to pack up. If you’re like me, you’ll think of things at random times that you need to do. Putting these down on your schedule once they pop in your head will make sure you remember when the time comes. Keeping a schedule will not only keep you on track but will ensure you don’t miss anything along the way.

Find a Good Moving Company

Start researching now on good movers in your area. Get quotes so you know how to budget well in January. You also need to decide how you are going to move. Ask yourself these questions so you can be prepared for all the options:

  • Do you want to pack it and load/unload it yourself?

  • Do you need help packing and loading/unloading?

  • Do you want to make one trip or multiple?

Once you narrow it down, seeking out a good mover for you and your valuables will be a breeze.

Take it in Strides

If you are planning to move in January, don’t stress yourself out during the Holidays. Take it in strides. Start packing a little at a time. If you still want to celebrate the holidays, make your Christmas decorations the last thing to pack up. You can pack up all your summer attire and decorations first so they are out the way for when the big move comes. Doing a little bit at a time will alleviate your stress and help you get through this season.

Label Label Label

I cannot say this enough, but put labels on everything! Labels will help you know exactly what is in each box so that you don’t have to search too hard when you get to your new location. Labels also help those who are helping you move into your new home. Each label tells the person holding the box in which room to put the boxes in. The more organized you can be, the better!

Plan a Packing Party

Packing parties are the best way to pack up and move. As you make your schedule, be sure to plan a time to gather your friends and family and pack up your home. If you don’t have anyone nearby to lend a hand, plan a time for your movers to come and pack up your home while you take a spa day or relax while they do all the hard work. Planning any kind of party will rejuvenate your moving experience!
