5 Things to Do Now If You Want to Move This Summer
As warmer weather (finally) arrives and all of the school things come to a close, you may be thinking about what’s next. And if what’s next includes a new home, now is a great time! Summer is often a busy season for real estate as families move in and out of the area. This means, if you’re thinking of making a transition, there will be lots of homes hitting the market!
Here are 5 things you can do now, to prep for a move this summer:
1. Make a Want-List
This is a fun list to make (but keep in mind, no home is perfect)! Imagine all the things you want in a house from a back porch sitting area to a kitchen big enough to prep for Thanksgiving dinner, and write them down. Then make a copy and hand this list to your realtor. It’s our job to find you a home you love. You can also include things you definitely don’t want in a house to help your realtor find your perfect space as well.
2. Update Your Home
Whether it be paint colors, countertops, or appliances, sprucing up your home will bring value to your house. Not only that, but updates and improvements can help your home seem more appealing to potential buyers. You don’t need to do a complete renovation, but identify some key problem areas, and see what you can do to make improvements.
3. Start Looking at Location
Location matters. Take a look at your lifestyle and evaluate what things you want to be close to (church, work, gym, grocery stores, schools, etc.). It’s especially crucial to research school districts if you have school-age children since this can limit a home search.
4. Cut Back on Your Spending
It’s no secret that buying a house can be expensive. Between inspections, updates, and closing costs, you can expect to be out a lot (and that’s even before a down payment on your next house). If you haven’t already, start cutting back your spending and saving where you can. This will help to relieve stress when the time comes.
5. Reach Out!
Lastly, if you’re even considering a move, reach out, and let’s talk through it! I’d be happy to walk you through the process and help even in the early stages to get you ready for the transition to come. It would be my honor to help you sell and buy your next home!
