When I look at the weather forecast on my phone and don’t see a high temperature lower than 70 degrees, I feel like doing a little hallelujah dance! Here in Oklahoma, the winters can be long, but it makes those first weeks of spring (aka basically summer) so sweet! Once those weeks hit, I find myself wanting to put up my heavy throw blankets and bust out my favorite spring decorations.

Whether you are staging your home to sell, or simply wanting to brighten things up, here are a few of my favorite ways to decorate for spring.

1. Flowers, Flowers, Flowers

Nothing says “springtime” more than fresh (or fake but real looking) flowers. There are so many ways to use flowers and plants  in your home, but some of the places I typically put them are:

  • In centerpieces on my dining room table, kitchen table, and coffee table

  • In a spring, floral wreath on my front door

  • In my flowerbeds (this one feels pretty obvious haha)

  • In windowsill boxes

  • And in various planters I have around my house and on my porch

Choose your favorite kind and let the flowers bring some color and life to the winter drab.

2. Brighter Colors

This is the time to put away all of the greys, blacks, and browns and replace them with pastels and fun, bright colors. There are several ways to do this including adding a new table cloth, replacing the rugs around your house, and maybe even changing out lamp shades. If you really want to go above and beyond, consider painting an accent wall a fun color in one of the rooms of your house.

3. Lighter Textures and Fabrics

You may love your cozy, heated blanket for winter, but now that it’s spring, one of the best ways you can decorate your home is by replacing that blanket with something lighter. Examine your home and put up anything that’s made of wool, cable knit, fur, or heavier fabrics. Instead, break out the linen, cotton, and fun patterns. This may include things like pillows, furniture slipcovers, blankets, and even your window treatments.

4. Home Accessories

Did you know that even replacing a few simple home accessories can make your home feel more like springtime? If you have wooden boxes that you use as storage, consider switching them out for some light colored wicker baskets. You could even switch any dark color candles you have laying around to lighter colored ones that have floral or fruity scents instead of homey ones.

If you want to get really crazy, consider replacing the hardware on your furniture to lighter metals or fun colors. You’ll be surprised how much of a pop this can bring to your spring decor.

Spring is such a fun season, and your decor should reflect this! It will help to brighten your home up, and hopefully brighten your spirit up too!
