Buying Goals

Buying Goals

Do you have a goal to own your own home by a certain date? These goals are great to set but they are even better to accomplish. As a real estate agent, I hear many first-time homebuyers talk about the path they walked to landing their first home.

If this is you, there are a few things you need to consider before deciding you want to buy a home:

  • Do you desire a new build or an older home?

  • Where do you want to live?

  • Are there specific features in the house you want to have?

  • How long do you plan to live there?

Once you have these questions answered it’s time to set a goal. Here is what you need to get started.

Write out your goal

Moving from pen to paper does great things to boost your mentality when it comes to goals.

Set a budget

Do you know how much you want to pay per month? Start there. Once you have that number let’s chat about how your mortgage works alongside your insurance and property taxes. That will give you a good idea of how much of a house you can afford in the future.

Consider your credit score

Your credit score is a major component when it comes to buying a house. Lenders will look at this information and decide whether or not you are approved to purchase a house. Make sure you are trying to improve your credit score so banks will see you are worth their time.

Talk to experts

Whether it’s realtors like me or financial advisors, talk to experts to see if you are on the right path to accomplish your goal of buying a home by a certain date.

Prepare to move

It’s never too late to declutter and imagine what your life would look like once you move to a certain area. Also, consider the distance to work. Consider getting up a little earlier and commuting to your job from a specific ideal neighborhood. Imagine what you can do now before you purchase a home in preparation to move.
