Living in a house with ample amounts of storage is a rare find in today’s homes. Almost everyone I talk to says they wish they had more storage here or more storage there. Whether it is a small space to store precious items or a larger space for everyday essentials, I’ve gathered a few ideas to inspire you to implement storage solutions in whatever house you own!

Hide It

Even though it sounds like the opposite of “having storage,” purchasing things that can double as storage such as coffee tables, ottomans, end tables, benches, etc. can have a great impact on the number of things that get off the floor and into a special spot. It can even work to cover built-in bookshelves that are in disarray so you don’t have to worry about styling it to look just right.

Small Curtains

Create a quaint, cottage feel by placing a small curtain along your cabinets, bookshelves, or other areas you’d rather hide. It’s a simple way to hide the chaos and make your home appear clean.

Dressers

Use dressers for more than just storing clothes. Place them in your entryway, dining room, living room, bathroom, or any other room for an extra set of drawers to hold those key things that are hard to find a spot for.

Small Containers

Does your bathroom or kitchen ever feel like a disaster zone? Try using glass or colored jars to gather the items on the loose around these key areas of your home. Once it’s got a spot, you can take a deep breath and relax a little. Bonus, if you store spices in these jars, they can double as decoration outside of your spice cabinet so you can store more things behind closed doors.

Baskets and Boxes

Get creative with baskets and boxes around your home. Now, don’t get me wrong, you may not want a large box that says “Home Depot” right beside your couch, but there are other inexpensive boxes and baskets that work well to hold things like magazines, books, puzzles, candles, pens, paper, and whatever else you can imagine.

These ideas work and are extremely simple to implement in any home with any amount of storage or lack thereof. If you are considering selling your home, use these small ways to simplify your things so your potential buyers can easily see your home for what it is rather than be distracted by all the things on the floor or cabinets.
