4 Ways to Improve Your Curb Appeal
Often, the exterior of a house is the first thing people (including potential buyers) see. Not only that, but they also form an opinion about your home from that very first glance. Most people assume a run-down-looking house on the outside is also run-down-looking on the inside.
If you’re starting to worry thinking the outside of your home is less than glamorous, don’t panic. Small changes make a big difference when it comes to sprucing up your exterior. No matter the size or style of your house, here are a few simple areas to focus on when it comes to improving the curb appeal of your house.
1. Flower Beds
First off, it’s important to focus on the flower beds you may have in front of your house. Maintenance is key, so choose simple but beautiful plants that will help to add to the beauty of your house. Once you have the flowers/plants/bushes you like, adding some fresh mulch and staying on top of weeds will help keep it looking nice.
2. Lawn Maintenance
This one is fairly obvious, but nobody wants to pull up to a house with an overgrown and weed-filled lawn. These Oklahoma summers can be brutal, but it’s not time to slack off when it comes to maintaining your yard. If you do have weeds, patchy grass, or other yard problems, I’d be happy to recommend a few expert lawn care companies if that’s out of your area of expertise.
3. Structural Touch-Ups
Once the yard looks good, you can focus on updating and improving the structure of your house. If you have a brick house, consider hiring someone to power-wash the brick. You’ll be shocked at how much cleaner and nicer it looks. If you have paneling or wood, consider touching up the paint. Fresh paint really does work wonders! This is also a good opportunity to replace light bulbs, patch any holes, and make any other small repairs you’ve been putting off.
4. Porch Decor
Lastly, even if you have just a small doorstep, the decor on your porch matters. A good rule of thumb is to play up the seasons when it comes to decorating your porch. Choose a wreath or door hanger that fits with whatever season or holiday is coming up. Add small planters or pieces of decor that stay with the theme. And finally, choose a doormat that is welcoming, cute, and consistent with your overall look.
