5 Easy Home Updates Buyers Will Love
If you’re thinking about selling your home anytime soon, it’s a good idea to think through some easy updates too! If you’ve ever bought a home, you know that even little things can make a big difference. Those little things may just be the wow factor that a buyer needs to push them over the edge and put in an offer.
However, these updates don’t necessarily have to be timely or costly (feel free to let out a sigh of relief here). I’ve worked to put together a list of five easy updates that potential buyers will love about your home. Take a look and get started on those home improvements!
1. Think Through Curb Appeal
The first impression of a home is made a the curb, so any updates you can do to improve the exterior of your house is going to be a win! Consider taking on these exterior updates:
Paint your front door. Especially if your front door is chipping or old, or maybe just a strange color, consider repainting. I love this article from Southern Living about what the color of your front door says about you. Take a look and let me know what color of door you prefer!
Add some landscaping. It’s amazing how a few pretty flowers, trees, and bushes can bring life to a yard. Consider doing this yourself, or hiring a professional to add this in for you.
Clean it all up. Lastly, make sure that the exterior of your house is clean and inviting. Nobody wants to purchase a home that is covered in red Oklahoma dirt. Bust out the power washer and clean the siding of your house, and get the Windex to get the windows. Sweep off your sidewalk and driveway to put the cherry on the top.
2. Modernize Your Paint Colors
Next, take a walk through your home and ask yourself, “does it feel like I’m in the nineties?” If your answer is yes, it may be time for some paint updates. Do some research on the most popular paint colors today, and refresh your home focusing on the main living areas. Be sure to keep in neutral too. You may love yellow, but your buyers might not.
3. Update the Hardware
This is one of those little things that makes a big difference. Simply modernizing the hardware on your kitchen and bathroom cabinets can go a long way. I love this one because it really does make a huge impact with minimal work and not a lot of cost.
4. Improve Your Lighting
Did you know that lighting is one of the most important factors when it comes to selling a home? If someone walks in and it feels a little like a dungeon, you can expect them to walk out pretty quickly. So, what are some ways to add some light to the darkness?
Update lighting fixtures. If your lighting is older, it may be time for an update. Consider purchasing more modern light fixtures that shine the light more effectively throughout a room.
Install new fixtures. This one may take a little more work, but it could be worth it! If you have a particularly dark room, try to add in recessed lighting or another fixture. Let me know if you need an electrician recommendation!
Take a look at your window coverings. Window coverings are another small thing with a big impact. Walkthrough your home and see what coverings may be in need of improvements or upgrades.
5. Don’t Forget the Floors
Finally, don’t forget to think through potential updates to your floors that could attract buyers. Here are a few things you can do to make sure this important area isn’t neglected:
Deep clean. Whether you have carpet, tile, wood, or something else, it can all be deep cleaned. I’m not talking running a Swiffer or vacuum over it. I’m talking busting out the big guns and really getting the dirt out.
Replace dated flooring. If you have laminate that looks like your grandma’s house when you were a child, it may be time to replace it. There are a lot of great, affordable flooring options out there. This could be just the update your house is needing!
Hardwood is always a good idea. I think this speaks for itself, but if you’re really wanting to improve this area, and are willing to spend a little more, hardwood floors always help a home sell.
