The Best Day Trips From OKC

best day trips from okc

Whether you are new to the area, new to my site, or not new to either, learning about (and taking) day trips around the state can be such a fun way to experience new things, get out of the city, and make memories with your family and friends. Plus, with it being summer, now is the perfect time to get away if even for the day!

Living in the OKC metro area means you have lots of options for day trips, but below are a few of my favorites. I’ve tried to include destinations that are fun for my nature lovers and some for those of us who love our AC (haha!). Hopefully, you and your family can find some time this summer to explore and experience these fun locations!

Pawhuska - The Mercantile

Where are my Pioneer Woman people at?! This day trip is the perfect girls trip! Head on up to Pawhuska (about a 2-hour drive from the metro) to see Ree Drummond’s shop and restaurant. Prepare to eat delicious food and shop for the cutest home goods and kitchen supplies. Remember, when it comes to selling your home, staging your kitchen is important. This would be the perfect place to get some hand towels and canisters for the counter if you’re prepping for the staging process!

Tulsa Area - The Gathering Place and the Oklahoma Aquarium

If you’re planning on heading up to Tulsa (about an hour and a half drive from the metro), be sure to include the kids because there are two amazing destinations that could make this the perfect family day trip.

The Gathering Place is Tulsa’s riverfront park that is so much more than just a park. It has attractions for all ages and even events based on when you go. Plan on spending quite a bit of time there if you see it all.

We love the Oklahoma Aquarium! It’s full of all sorts of aquatic life complete with shark tunnel and sting ray petting area. Whether you have toddlers or teenagers, they are sure to learn and explore in this fun place.

Lawton - Wichita Mountains

If your family loves to be outdoors and hike, this is the day trip for you! Hikes in the Wichita mountains will lead to beautiful views, fun picnic spots, and maybe even some bison spotting! Be sure to stop by Meers in Lawton (an hour and a half drive from the metro) for some good Oklahoma burgers and the best cobbler around!

Davis - Turner Falls

Looking to cool off from this Oklahoma summer heat? Turner Falls is the place for you (about an hour and a half drive from the metro)! Turner Falls is home to Oklahoma’s largest waterfall and is such a fun place to swim. Plus, once you’re done, you can head over to Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Arcadia - Pops

If you’re more of a foodie and are looking for a trip that’s even closer to the metro, then Arcadia is the destination for you (about a 30 min drive from the metro). Head over to Pops Soda Ranch for a fun atmosphere and more bottled drinks than you can count. The food is delicious too! Then drive over to Arcadia lake to walk around and enjoy being in nature (close to the city!).
