Building a New Home

Building a New Home

As a real estate agent, I want each client to understand the process before they even begin. And today, a lot of people are considering selling their homes so they can build or buy their dream homes. This is an amazing goal! And I want to help, so as you think about what’s best for your family, here are a few things to consider if you want to build a new home.

Custom Build vs. Builder Designed Homes

There are many advantages to both of these options. If you purchase land, you can custom build your home and you can better control the timeline of how everything gets accomplished. If you want neighbors or want lots of the decisions made for you (think layout, design options, etc.), a neighborhood is a great option!

Where to Live During the Build

Something big to consider is whether or not you want to live in your current home during the build or if it’s better for you to live elsewhere while your new home is being built. Talk to your local mortgage lender about which option is best for you so you know when to put your current home on the market.

During the Build

If you chose to live in your current home during your build process, it’s important to get your home ready to sell. This means decluttering, staging your home, and listing it with someone like me, a real estate agent.

Setting the Timeline

This can be the trickiest part of selling your home and moving into a newly built home. Building homes are not always on a strict timeline and often sway from the time they say they will be done to the actual finish time. As your real estate agent, I will do my best to make sure we set a closing date that works best for you and your family so you can avoid paying for two mortgages.

Selling and Moving

Once the closing date is set, it’s time to finish packing and get ready for life in your new home! This is my favorite day as a real estate agent because people and families come into closing giddy for their new adventure. The joy on this day is simply the best.
