How To Search For A House
You are ready to take the plunge. Whether it’s buying your first home or forever home, searching for a home should be a fun experience and not a stressful one. But all too often I meet with clients who are filled with stress and think they know exactly what they want because of Pinterest pictures they have been saving for the last five years.
While knowing what you want is a good place to start, it doesn’t have to end there. Let’s chat about how to search for a home and what to look for.
Square Footage
Many times people want more square footage in a home because they feel like they need more space. Do you currently live in a 1500 sqft home? Let’s walk through some houses that have an extra bedroom or a little more living space to see if that meets your needs.
House Layout
Even though your home’s square footage is a great place to start, consider the house layout before you go too big. Often, different house layouts with the same square footage can make your home feel bigger and sometimes solve the problems you are having with your current living space. Try looking at homes with an open concept to see if the space feels bigger simply because it doesn’t have four walls around each room. Or even consider a split layout to discover if it works for you. Remember, the more square footage you want, the more expensive your home might be.
Bedrooms and Offices
I hear often that clients want 3-4 bedrooms and an office. So what do they do? They type 3 bedrooms with an office into their search bar. The problem with this is that an extra bedroom can double as an office space. What’s the difference between an office space and a bedroom? A closet and a window in the room. If there is a closet and a window in the room, it can be defined as a bedroom. So don’t get hung up on words. Let me help you look for a home that fits your needs.
